Gather all the ingredients for the marinara sauce. Keep in mind this sauce calls for canned tomatoes, not fresh.
Puree the canned tomatoes in a blender or food processor. Rough chop the fresh basil.
Preheat a large pot with some olive oil. Press some garlic into the oil and sauté it until golden brown. Add the tomatoes, marsala wine, black pepper, sugar, salt, and chopped basil.
Bring the sauce to a boil and cook it for 5 minutes. Use the sauce for spaghetti, pizza, or as a dip for breadsticks. Enjoy!
