Cut off the ends of the strawberries and pierce each one with a lollipop stick.
Melt the chocolate chips with shortening in the microwave in 20 second rounds, stirring between each just until the mixture is smooth.
Dip each strawberry into the chocolate, followed the coconut flakes or finely chopped nuts.
Let the strawberries set upright in a foam or wooden block for about 30 minutes before serving. Store remaining strawberries in the refrigerator. Enjoy!
