Preheat the oven to 350°F. Boil a large pot of water and cook the pasta three minutes short of the instructed cooking time. Drain the pasta and return it back to the pot off the heat.
In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add in the flour and cook for 2-3 minutes, whisking continuously.
Slowly pour in the heavy cream and milk and keep whisking. Cook the mixture for five minutes, or until it thickens into a smooth and creamy sauce.
Turn off the heat and add the salt, along with four cups of the cheese. Whisk until the cheese is completely melted. Pour the cheese sauce over the pasta and stir to evenly coat.
Transfer the pasta into a 9x13 baking dish. Top it with the remaining 2 cups of cheese.
Bake in the oven uncovered for about 30 minutes or until bubbly and golden brown.
