Poppy Seed Roll (Classic Ukrainian)

These poppy seeds roll are is ultra-fluffy, sweet, and bursting with poppy seeds. Enjoy them at any time of the day with a steaming cup of coffee or tea!

  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp sugar

Instructions

  • Prepare the perfect yeast pastry dough according to the instructions. While the dough is rising, prepare the filling.

  • Make the poppy seed filling according to the instructions. Allow it to cool to room temperature.

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. Divide the dough into four equal pieces.

  • Roll out each piece of dough into an even 11x8 inch rectangle. Spread the poppy seed mixture onto the dough.

  • Starting from the shorter side, roll the rectangle up like a jelly roll. Repeat the process with the other three pieces of dough.

  • Place the rolls seam side-down a few inches apart from each other on a baking sheet.

  • Lightly cover the baking sheet with plastic wrap and allow the rolls to rise for about an hour, or until they become puffy.

  • In a small bowl, whisk the egg and sugar together. Brush each roll with the egg wash.

  • Bake the rolls at 350°F for about 40 minutes or until they turn golden brown. Enjoy!
