Our Story Begins in Ukraine

In a small Ukrainian village during the fall of the Soviet Union, a young girl watched her mother transform the simplest ingredients into meals that brought their family together. With store shelves empty, everything they ate came from their own farm. Her mother’s ability to create incredible meals from next to nothing left a lasting impression on the young girl.

That girl was me. And those lessons didn’t truly hit home until I was living my own busy life in America.

When my husband, Tim, and I first got married, we ate so much processed food. After having our boys, Ethan and Jacob, being a working mom, making dinner felt impossibly hard. Despite having every ingredient imaginable, I found myself craving the simplicity of my mother’s kitchen. It was then I realized just how much I’d taken her effortless cooking for granted.

And that’s how Momsdish was born.

Hello, Momsdish!

Use what you have, keep it simple, make it delicious.

Momsdish is a bridge between the old-world wisdom of my mother’s kitchen and the realities of our modern lives. Every recipe carries the DNA of those lessons from Ukraine: use what you have, keep it simple, make it delicious.

We’re a community of people who want to get back to Mom’s basics and are dedicated to making the kitchen the centerpiece of our homes. We share ideas, recipe variations, and techniques (just peep the comments section!). Most importantly, we’re so happy you found your way to our corner of the internet.

Thank you Natalya, I have non English Russian & Ukrainian from my exwife’s Babushka. Thanks to you and the internet I will never have to translate 50 yr old cookbooks and, of all the resources on the internet, you are the very best with ingredients instructions and photos. Spaciba bolshoi!

I’m a Ukrainian/Dutch Canadian. I’ve been helping make pierogi for over 40 years. I’ve helped my Ukrainian Nana and then my Dutch mother, when it passed to her. I have to admit that your dough is so much better, easier to work with than what I inherited.
