I think “crepes” have traditionally been considered as a type of food originating from France, but growing up in Ukraine, we ate every version of them, too! This list includes 10 of my favorite ways to enjoy them, and I hope you give a few of them a try for a true taste of Ukrainian cooked crepes.
Let’s dive into the world of crepes with ten of the best crepe recipes. From savory blinchiki to sweet crepe cakes, these dishes guarantee to bring deliciousness to your kitchen. Now, get out your cup of hot liquid (coffee or tea?) and get to tasting!
What kitchen tools do you need? To make crepes, you don’t need many extra tools other than your stove. A nonstick small skillet, whisk, and mixing bowl are important, but to make the process easier and smoother, I also use a crepe pan and a blender.
10 Crepe Recipes I’m Obsessed With
Obsessed is a strong word… and yet, it is the most appropriate word when it comes to describing my love for crepes. Here are 10 of my top crepe recipes I make on repeat in my house!
1. Crepes Recipe (Ukrainian Blinchiki)
These Ukrainian blinchiki are basically super thin pancakes that are the foundation for many crepe recipes. The crepe batter is made from scratch using five basic ingredients and it makes the best crepes! I love that you can fill them with any crepe filling you like – peanut butter, chocolate, caramel, cream cheese, the list goes on!

2. Sourdough Crepes
Put your hard-earned extra sourdough discard to brilliant use with this tangy and sturdy variation of classic homemade crepes. The sourdough gives a deliciously complex flavor profile that pairs wonderfully with any toppings – fresh raspberries, bananas, diced ham, sauteed mushrooms… you get it.

3. Mango Crepe Cake
Bring a bit of sunshine into your kitchen with this stunning dessert. This cake consists of stacks of crepes layered between bright and airy fresh mango cream. Make sure to refrigerate the cake to let it set perfectly, then enjoy!

4. Chicken Crepe Pockets
Let’s change it up with something savory. These purse-like cooked crepes are filled with a creamy mixture of shredded chicken, green onions, and cream cheese. They are perfect to make ahead of time and pop into the oven to get warm and bubbly right before serving.

5. Nalysniki
Nalysniki are a fan- favorite Ukrainian dessert made of stuffed thin crepes. Once rolled, they are layered in a baking dish, drizzled with sweetened condensed milk, and baked to perfection. The time in the oven yields wonderfully caramelized edges that make these treats completely irresistible and wonderful as leftovers. Serve them like any crepes – with loads of fresh berries!

6. Strawberry Crepe Cake
Talk about a gorgeous dessert! This cake is made of layers of soft crepes, cooked strawberries, and an airy, sweet cream cheese frosting. The homemade strawberry juice gets folded directly into the cream, infusing the entire cake with a bright, fruity flavor. It’s like strawberry crepes – but the next level!

7. Nutella Crepe Cake
How can I not have a Nutella crepe cake to satisfy the chocolate lovers? In this cake, the crepes are stacked between layers of smooth whipped cream made of butter, condensed milk, cocoa powder, and Nutella. Top it with roasted hazelnuts for the perfect presentation.

8. Sweet Cheese Blintzes
Blintzes are sweet crepes that are filled with a deliciously tangy farmer’s cheese filling. Unlike standard crepes, blintzes are cooked twice—first as a pancake, and then pan-fried after being rolled up like a burrito. The second fry gives them perfectly golden-brown, crisp edges that taste amazing topped with fruit preserves or sour cream.

9. Tiramisu Crepe Cake
I love how so many of these cakes are no bake! In following the trend, this tiramisu consists of many crepe layers and classic Italian coffee flavors. Let it rest in the fridge for 24 hours and the flavors will meld together perfectly to create a stable, show-stopping dessert for the coffee lover in your life.

10. Blinchiki with Meat
Everyone wants a little savory in their life, too! These savory crepes are stuffed with a richly seasoned ground beef savory filling. Rolled up the crepe like a burrito, then pan fry it in butter until you have a buttery crisp edge. Serve with sour cream for the best bite. They’re also great for a work lunch as they reheat wonderfully in the microwave.
