After years of testing the viral green goddess dressing, we’ve created the perfect recipe. It’s irresistibly creamy, bursting with fresh herbs… shall we continue?

What Is Green Goddess Dressing?
Green goddess dressing is a salad dressing composed of a creamy base and LOTS of fresh herbs. It’s garlicky, tangy, and briny — but the flavor mainly depends on the type of herbs used. Tarragon is the most common choice, with parsley, chives, and basil as close runner-ups.
How did this dressing earn its name? Green goddess dressing was created in 1923 by a hotel chef to commemorate a play called “The Green Goddess.” After this delicious sensation went viral on TikTok in recent years, I set out to create my own version.
But wait, there’s more! Anyone who knows me knows I’m absolutely obsessed with re-creating viral TikTok recipes — take a peek at our Marry Me chicken, croffle, and air fryer chicken wings to understand why.

Tips From the Kitchen
I’ve been tweaking this recipe for green goddess dressing for years, and it’s safe to say that I’ve learned a few valuable tricks along the way. Let’s take a walk and talk!
- Pick the freshest herbs possible. This dressing is the perfect way to use up fresh herbs from your garden. Start with parsley, then use whatever you have on hand — we love dill, chives, tarragon, green onions, basil, cilantro, or even mint!
- Give everything a rough chop. There’s no need for perfect knife skills here, but a quick chop helps the herbs and garlic blend smoothly. Remove the stems from the herbs to prevent them from getting trapped in the blender.
- Use a powerful blender. We recommend this blender for the smoothest dressing, but a food processor also works.
- Alter the consistency to your preference. If you like a thinner dressing, gradually stream in olive oil while blending.
Ways To Serve
Green goddess dressing is summer-in-a-bottle! Enjoy it year-round as a dip for a crudités platter (veggie charcuterie board) or sweet potato fries. Do you have extra roasted veggies on hand? Green goddess dressing is phenomenal on roasted carrots and parsnips and roasted broccoli. Or, drizzle the dressing over your favorite salad. Our ultimate garden salad, Caesar salad, and broccoli cucumber and tomato salad are winners!
